The Howard Smith Exhibition Prize
The Melbourne School of Engineering awarded second year Science student, Xavier Rui, the 2017 Howard Smith Exhibition Prize. This prize is awarded to the student with the highest average in the subjects Engineering System Design 1 & 2. Xavier was presented with this award at the recent Science Dean’s Honours Evening at the University of Melbourne.
Many students now engage in research or courses over the summer break. Third-year Science student, Yi Shuen Lee, had such an opportunity earlier this year. She writes about this opportunity:

A record 58 students qualified as valetants this year. On Friday, 6 October 2017, the College gathered in the Chapel and the Dining Room to celebrate our annual Valete Mass and Dinner.
Our Netball team, after winning five of their six games in the preliminary rounds, lost in the semi-finals to Trinity College in the inter-collegiate competition.
The 2017 College production, Godspell, directed by Ryan Bentley and James MacKinnon and produced by Matilda Wraight, was a great success.

On Monday 18 September 2017, Former Collegian and current Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, Allan Myers AC QC, delivered the 2017 Sir Robert Menzies Oration on Higher Education.
2017 Basketball Premiership
On Friday 8 September 2017, the Men’s basketball team defeated Ormond College in the finals of the 2017 inter-collegiate competition.
