A Community of the Mind
Excellent study facilities and IT facilities are available in the Allan and Maria Myers Academic Centre. On three evenings a week, tutorials take place in the rooms designed for the purpose in this Centre.
Each year, we deliver approximately 90 tutorials to students. Many of the Senior Common Room members (graduates and postgraduates) are academic tutors and the remainder are drawn from the University and a wider professional community. The academic programme works to clarify and extend students' understanding of their university courses.
Our graduate students mentor – formally and informally – our undergraduate student body.
The Academic Committee offers advice and support to undergraduates who are exploring various graduate courses, practical assistance in preparing for the GAMSAT and LSAT, and career advice to the graduate cohort.
The interactions generated by our Scholars’ Presentations invite further inter-disciplinary discussion and debate.
Our Outreach Programme offers many additional opportunities for wider intellectual engagement.
Guest speakers at dinners and events bring different voices to our community to challenge us in in thinking and doing.
Complementing all of this, and possibly more important, are the often ad hoc intellectual excursions that can happen during meals and in conversations in the community.
