A Community of the Heart
Speak to any Newman College student, present or past, and they will mention the lasting friendships that are made in this community. These are part of what is at the heart of this community. Forged in common endeavours in the Dining Room, Chapel, sports arenas, concerts, soirées, tutorials, cafes, performances, pilgrimages and much more.
As a Catholic College in the Jesuit tradition, Newman is particularly concerned with 'a faith that seeks justice'. As a result, Newman maintains a very active programme of community service. Community service is an area of great importance in College life and applies to service inside the College and to the wider community. Service is a central part of student life at Newman, and an important dimension of the College's Catholic identity. Through service to the community, individuals develop a mature self-understanding, an appreciation of the world around them through engagement with people from other communities and become agents of positive change both now and in their sphere of influence later in life.
Sport, Drama, Music, the College Choir and numerous social and cultural events and functions all play a part in developing an environment which fosters this community of the heart.
